Bahrain is rapidly embracing Artificial Intelligence, moving from traditional rule-based systems to advanced data-driven technologies. Machine learning, already powering daily applications, is poised to drive the kingdom's smart city ambitions, but experts emphasize the need for strategic planning aligned with Vision 2030.
Jatin Karia, senior partner at Grant Thornton Bahrain, underlines the transformative power of generative AI in Bahrain. "The future of AI in Bahrain is incredibly promising and transformative," he states. "Recent advancements in generative AI, such as those seen in models like GPT-4 and Google's Gemini, are making AI more accessible and efficient." He believes these technologies will revolutionize various industries in Bahrain, from financial services to the oil and gas sector, by enhancing automation, improving decision-making, and enabling personalized experiences for citizens and residents.
Mr Karia also highlights the importance of ethical considerations, noting that “innovations like edge processing and AI governance frameworks, such as ISO/IEC 42001, are crucial for addressing ethical considerations and ensuring data privacy and security within Bahrain's regulatory environment.”
Nishith Saxena, partner for technology advisory at Grant Thornton Bahrain, highlights AI's profound impact on efficiency and productivity in Bahrain. "AI algorithms are capable of processing and analyzing vast amounts of data rapidly, providing valuable insights for informed decision-making," he explains. He points to specific applications, such as "AI-powered chatbots offering 24/7 support" in customer service, and "AI-driven predictive maintenance in heavy industries preventing equipment failures."
Furthermore, Mr Saxena notes the use cases of AI in, " optimization of supply chain operations and AI by adopting AI powered demand prediction, inventory management and route optimization and in healthcare where , AI can assist in diagnosing diseases, creating treatment plans, and real-time patient monitoring, leading to faster and more accurate diagnoses and improved patient outcomes. He also quoted financial services in Bahrain who are already reaping benefit from AI through enhanced fraud detection, automated trading processes, and personalized financial advice, streamlining operations and bolstering security within the kingdom's thriving financial hub.”
He advised that “To effectively implement AI in an organization, it is crucial to define clear objectives aligned with business goals, assemble a skilled team, and ensure access to high-quality data. Selecting the right AI technologies and conducting pilot projects will validate their effectiveness.”
Grant Thornton Bahrain's managing partner Jassim Abdulaal envisions a future where AI is deeply integrated into Bahraini life. "As AI continues to evolve, we can anticipate further integration into everyday life in Bahrain, with applications ranging from healthcare and finance to education and entertainment," he states. He predicts that "ongoing research and development in AI will likely lead to even more sophisticated and human-like AI systems, pushing the boundaries of what's possible and driving significant economic growth in line with Bahrain's national development goals." Mr Abdulaal also highlights the potential for AI in "smart city projects, educational advancement, and the diversification of the economy."
